Crown Prince Rupprecht
Rupprecht was the last Bavarian crown prince. As commander in chief of the German 6th army he had actively participated in the First World War. Although he had lost his claim to the throne due to the introduction of the Munich Soviet Republic, he was still referred to as King of Bavaria by those who were loyal to the king. As an opponent of the National Socialists, he took part in attempts to form a government in 1932/33 - with the aim of warding off the seizure of power. Because of his clear anti-Nazi position, he was forced to go into exile in Italy in 1939. His wife and children survived in a concentration camp until the end of the war. When Crown Prince Rupprecht died in 1955 at the age of 86, he was buried with royal honors in Munich's Theatine Church.
