"Generation T" is an initiative by Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg and designer Hella Jongerius against the waste of valuable resources - both material and human - which are becoming increasingly valuable in the process of manufacturing porcelain. The idea for this project arose from the need to bring back to life plates, cups and bowls of unique quality that had become unfashionable and were previously gathering dust in the cellar or attic: in the middle of the table; for breakfast, lunch or dinner; in the family or also together with friends!
The Vision
HELLA JONGERIUS x NYMPHENBURG
For the Dutch designer, this project is another step towards a new future: to reduce our energy footprint and save the planet by moving from a consumer society to a service society. For Jongerius, the future of good, socially responsible design lies in an evolution of content; for example, improving tools, simplifying activities or even increasing the quality of life; moving away from a NEW product to a CONTINUED product. These are values that Nymphenburg shares without reservation. Thanks to "Generation T", porcelain pieces that have been given, inherited or purchased on the second-hand market become desirable again and return to their actual purpose - on the table.
How can unloved porcelain from
previous generations be used in a new way?
With a new interpretation by Hella Jongerius. The Dutch designer and Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg invite you to the table...
-
-
TRADITION
The finer and higher quality a porcelain is, the less often it is used in everyday life. Unfortunately. Instead of giving pleasure every day, many pieces gather dust in the cupboard.
-
TRANSFORMATION
by means of two new design
WEEDS are free spirits; anarchists that cover up coveted cultivated plants in nature. With solid and hatched lines, Jongerius' fantasy weeds proliferate seemingly uncontrollably
over the edges of plates as fine outline drawings. They give courage. Courage that something new is emerging, especially now, when even small things in nature play a big role.DRIPPING is provocative - with blue, black or golden drops that form long streaks. Underneath them, the meticulously painted scattered flowers disappear like unpleasant memories. At the same time, the drops symbolise water. Water that nourishes and gives new life.

TABLEWARE
In future, porcelain pieces from
Nymphenburg that have been donated, inherited or bought on the second-hand
market can be painted with one of Hella Jongerius' newly created designs. They
become desirable again and return to their true purpose - on the table.

Questions & Answers
Which porcelain is accepted?
Within the framework of this re-use project, we can only refine pieces that were made in Nymphenburg, as we know the firing curves and colour compositions for these. Only items without gold can be refired so please take not of this when selecting the items.
Do you also prepare valuations for my pieces?
Please note that Nymphenburg does NOT provide appraisals! To determine the value of porcelain pieces that are no longer offered in Nymphenburg's current assortment, please contact an expert appraiser.
How can I identify that my tableware is from Nymphenburg?
You can see if it is a Nymphenburg original by the underglaze mark which is located on the underside of each piece. You can find an overview of the different marks on our
website under the following link:
Is there a minimum purchase?
No. You can have one piece painted or as many as you like.
I live in Munich. Can I just drop by with my dishes?
Yes. You are welcome to make an appointment in advance at generationT@nymphenburg.com. This
way we can examine your Nymphenburg porcelain and decide which pieces are
suitable for the re-use project. There is a fee of 75 euros for this consultation, which will be credited to you when you place your order.
Can I also send in the pieces to be painted?
Yes, you can order a voucher for 75 euros in advance via our website. This includes a
consultation and handling fee, which will be credited to you when you place an
order. With the purchase of the voucher, you will also receive a list of tips from us on how to pack your tableware so that it arrives safely.
What happens after I send them in?
We check in advance to determine if your items are suitable for repainting. Please give us some time for this. You will receive feedback from us by telephone within 14 days of receipt of the items. In this telephone call, we will also discuss your
decor wishes. You will then receive a PDF from us with an overview of the pieces you have sent in. Here you can indicate which piece is to be painted with which motif. As soon as we receive the signed list back from you, we will prepare a cost estimate for you.
What are the costs?
First of all, there is a service fee of 75 euros for the processing and appraisal. This
will be credited when the order is placed. Nymphenburg will pay for the return
shipment or the costs of delivery. Your order will be processed after receipt of payment (100% prepayment). You will find the prices for painting in the following table:
DRIPPING
(black/blue)
- Small 13 to 21 cm (plate, saucer, cup, bowl, sugar bowl, etc.) 60 Euro
- Medium 22 to 25 cm (plate, soup plate,etc.) 80 Euro
- Large 26 to 32 cm (plates, platters, etc.) 120 Euro
- Service pieces (tureen, plates larger than 32 cm, jugs, etc.) 160 Euro

- Service pieces (tureen, plates larger than 32 cm, jugs, etc.) 290 Euro
Multi-part service parts such as a butter dish, jug with lid, soup cup with lid count as one piece and are therefore only charged once. Cup and saucer are calculated separately, i.e. as two objects.
How long does the production take?
Approximately 6-8 weeks after placing the order and receipt of payment.
Which tableware is suitable?
In principle, any Nymphenburg piece can be "re-used" - unless it has gold! This could be damaged during re-firing. Pieces that are cracked or damaged are also unsuitable. However we can accept cups and plates with small chips if you wish to have them painted. Small flaws can be wonderfully concealed with the "drippings" decoration. We can only make a binding statement about the submitted pieces after careful examination.
Which designs are available?
We offer two designs by Hella Jongerius, the "Dripping" design and the "Weeds". With the new painting, each piece also receives the stamp of Hella Jongerius. In this way, each of your newly painted pieces becomes an artist's original.
Can I choose which pieces get which design?
Yes. As a basis for the cost estimate, we will send you a list of the pieces you have sent us, plus an overview of the designs. On this sheet you can note which piece is to be painted with which decor.
How do I care for my freshly finished pieces?
Like almost all Nymphenburg pieces, the newly painted "Generation T" pieces are dishwasher-safe. You can find detailed care instructions on our website.
What happens to damaged or unsuitable goods?
After placing the order, these will be returned to you with the newly painted pieces. If you decide not to have your items painted, everything will be returned to you promptly.
I live outside the EU/USA. What is the procedure in this case?
In this case we offer the possibility of a facetime or team meeting in advance to clarify further details with you. It is best to send us 2-3 appointment proposals at generationT@nymphenburg.com.
Who can I contact if I have further questions?
Send us a short e-mail at generationT@nymphenburg.com. Depending on your needs, we will be happy to call you back.
