Description
Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg owes one of its most important services of the 20th century to the architect and designer Wolfgang von Wersin. In the New Objectivity style, Wersin designed the Adonis form for Nymphenburg, which is still one of the manufactory's most beautiful today. The light refracts in the fine grooved relief of the surface, making the shards appear almost transparent in the play of shadows. The reduced painting emphasizes the structure of the timelessly modern form in its simplicity. Designed as a coffee service in 1932, Adonis was also added to the repertoire of the master workshops as a dinner service in 1951/56. In addition to the classic designs with a matt or glazed rim, pure white or a fine serrated decoration in black or 24-carat fine gold, the "Red Bamboo" edition was developed. The red bamboo stalks, freely painted by hand, are a symbol of delicacy and durability, luck and resilience and complement the precious elegance of Adonis with their Asian feel.
