Since it was frowned upon at that time to use fresh flowers as decorations at the table since they might wither during the meal, in 1765 Joseph Zaechenberger designed a colourful and festive decor with floral bouquets, individual flowers, butterflies and insects, all framed by a fine gold lace edge. CUMBERLAND is still considered to be the world's most elaborate floral decoration that is still produced on porcelain: It takes a painter up to three weeks to paint a single plate.
